Albright-Knox director moving on
A big change is on the way at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Director Louis Grachos is stepping down after ten years for a post in Austin, Texas.
As of January, Grachos will head up the new AMOA Arthouse, formed by the merger of the Austin Museum of Art and Arthouse at the Jones Center.
"I am looking forward to working to build a world-class contemporary program in Austin. It is an exciting and unique opportunity. The merger of the Austin Museum of Art and Arthouse at the Jones Center presents endless possibilities to create a new model for an organization that will creatively integrate contemporary and modern art into the entire Austin community," said Grachos.
Buffalo Fine Arts Academy President Leslie Zemsky said Grachos has done incredible work at the Gallery and has energized and engaged the entire Buffalo-Niagara region and beyond. Zemsky said a committee is being formed to conduct a national search for the next gallery director.
"We will continue his great work. We are forming a committee to initiate a national search for our next director, and we will be working closely with Louis to ensure a smooth transition," said Zemsky.
Grachos says while he's looking forward to his new opportunity in Austin, he still has a lot to do at the Albright-Knox over the next six months
