Alden, NY – Tuesday's downsizing vote in Alden was decided by a count of the absentee ballots. By a margin of 32 votes, Alden became the fourth town in Western New York to agree to cutting board seats.
Alden town Supervisor Ron Smith is critical of the decision, saying the savings realized from cutting part-time board seats is minimal. But Regionalism Advocate Kevin Gaughan says that Alden is part of a larger process.
Alden's Board will be reduced from five to three seats as a result of the vote.
In November, Hamburg residents will consider similar downsizing legislation.
