Authorities are investigating three separate vehicle-related deaths that occurred in the last week. The latest happened Thursday just before midnight on the Delaware Avenue S-Curve through Buffalo's Delaware Park.
Authorities say a vehicle was traveling southbound on Delaware, just past Nottingham Terrace, when the driver apparently lost control and struck the center bridge abutment on the Route 198 bridge. They say the driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and had to be extricated by Buffalo firefighters.
The male driver, in his late 20s, was declared deceased at the scene. Authorities are investigating whether the vehicle may have been traveling at a high rate of speed.
Meanwhile, a pedestrian struck by a vehicle Monday afternoon in the 1900 block of Delaware Avenue has died.
He was identified as a man in his 60s, who had darted into the street. He was transported to Erie County Medical Center with serious injuries, where he died.
Investigators are continuing to try and identify the victim. No charges were filed in the incident.
Also under investigation is the death of a 14-year-old girl who had been hospitalized at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo since Saturday.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office said she was the passenger in an ATV crash about 10 p.m. along a bike path between Gunnville and Wehrle roads in Clarence. The vehicle was driven by a 15-year-old boy, who was also injured.
