State authorities are investigating the deaths of two inmates Thursday at the Attica Correctional Facility.
A brief statement issued Friday by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision says described the inmates as being unattended at the time. A third inmate was taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries.
Officials are releasing few details, citing the ongoing investigation. State Police at the Department of Corrections are looking into the deaths.
The names of the inmates and the circumstances of their deaths have not been released.
Attica was the site of the nation's deadliest prison riot in 1971. Thirty-nine people died, including ten correctional officers and civilian employees.
