A boil water order has been lifted in the Village of Fredonia.
The Chautauqua County Health Department says the order was lifted as of 3 p.m. Monday. Health officials say it is now safe to use the water for drinking, cooking and other uses. Residents are also no longer being asked to conserve water.
The village water treatment plant returned to normal operations on Friday night. For several days, there were problems at the filtration plant with a device that purified the water and filtered out sediment.
Testing had shown bacteria late last week, but water mains were flushed this morning and the latest samples show the water is safe.
Residents are asked to flush their plumbing systems by running faucets, tubs and other water fixtures to ensure safe water is running throughout their pipes.
