Buffalo Building Reuse Project to reverse vacant property trend

The Buffalo Building Reuse Project was undertaken by business leaders and economic development professionals to improve the competitiveness of downtown Buffalo.

"Today we're releasing the findings and recommendations of our year-long Buffalo Building Reuse Project," said Buffalo Niagara Partnership President and CEO Andrew Rudnick

Rudnick said the project will attract an estimated $39 to $78-million in new investment over the next five years.

"Our BBRP team and the Mayor have put together an approach to improving Buffalo's downtown which combines a customer-friendly, development-savvy delivery system, with dedicated new resources, with sharpened development policies and tools, and with coordinated public and private leadership commitments," said Rudnick.

Buffalo Mayor Bryon Brown said the City is committing nearly $40-million over the next three years to implement the  recommendations.  Buffalo will kick in $750,000 each year in infrastructure improvements.

"This will give us the resources, the tools, the strategy in a very coordinated and collaborative way to reverse the trend of vacancy in downtown, to encourage additional significant investment in downtown, and investment that will create commercial growth and job creation in the heart of the City of Buffalo," said Mayor Brown.
