A Catholic school administrator has pleaded guilty to embezzling nearly $50,000 over a three-year period.

The Erie County District Attorney's Office says Dennis Potozniak, 57, of Cheektowaga pleaded guilty before State Supreme Court Justice Russell Buscaglia Tuesday to one count of grand larceny in the third degree, a class-D felony.

DA John Flynn says while employed as the business administrator for South Buffalo Catholic Schools, Potozniak wrote false checks for tuition reimbursement and raffle winnings, which he deposited into an account for himself. Flynn says between 2014 and 2017, Potozniak embezzled $49,418 from Notre Dame Academy and South Buffalo Catholic School.

The former administrator now faces up to seven years in prison when he is sentenced in February.
