Couple injured in Newfane motorcycle crash identified

Authorities have identified the driver and passenger of the motorcycle involved in Sunday's crash in Newfane.

The Niagara County Sheriff said a preliminary investigation revealed an eastbound minivan, driven by 72-year-old John Thrasher of Ontario, failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic when it attempted to turn left into West Lake Road.

The motorcycle was westbound and struck the minivan as it crossed into the westbound lane. The two motorcycle two riders were ejected and had to be Mercy Flighted to Erie County Medical Center.

The driver, 75-year-old Thaddeus Bielawa Jr. of Clarence, is listed in guarded condition. The passenger, 72-year-old Anne Bielawa also of Clarence, is in stable condition.

Thrasher and his passengers in the minivan were not injured. The investigation is continuing by the Niagara County Sheriff Accident Investigation Unit.
