Erie County Legisalture approves downsizing measure

Buffalo, NY – The Erie County Legislature Thursday approved a measure to cut four seats from the governing body, while maintaining two-year terms for members.

The measure to reduce the the Legislature from 15 to 11 members passed Thursday by a bipartisan vote of nine to six.

"The people want a smaller, leaner, more efficient county government and we are heeding their call, stepping up to the plate, and leading by example by voting to downsize the Erie County Legislature," said Legislator Timothy Kennedy.

If County Executive Chris Collins signs the bill, voters will decide the measure in a public referendum this November.
