Extensive work will cause delays on Brighton Road
Detours will be posted on one of the busiest roads in Erie County for the next several months.
About a half-mile stretch of Brighton Road between Niagara Falls Boulevard and Fries Road is getting a $2 million upgrade.
"There are going to be days in which this road is closed," warned Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz.
He says the project involves a substantial amount of work because the road is undergoing complete reconstruction. The first step: removing all trees.
"A lot of people are wondering why that needs to be done. Well we have to go in there and reconstruct storm sewers. And to do that we actually have to get in to the underground portion underneath the trees and the right-of-way," Poloncarz explained.
Storm sewer and drainage work is expected to take 2-to-3-weeks. Then new curbs, pavement, ADA compliant crosswalks and new traffic signals will go in.
Brighton Road between Niagara Falls Boulevard and Fries is expected to reopen to regular traffic by the end of November.
