Federal tax bill passes the Senate

Dec 2, 2017

The US Senate scrambled to cobble together a tax plan that would bring its fractious elements on board yesterday.

Republicans finally appeased party members, and a bill was passed last night along party lines. Congressman Chris Collins called this a "once-in-a-generation opportunity to replace our outdated and complicated tax code." He said this was a win for local families.

Governor Cuomo countered that the plan will rob billions from New Yorkers, endanger health care and deepen the federal deficit.

Congress is hoping to present a final bill to President Trump before Christmas.
