Infant has fractured skull after falling from NF window

Niagara Falls Police say a baby has a fractured skull after the boy fell from a second-floor opening at a dilapidated home.

Police were called to the home on Walnut Avenue Wednesday to learn that the 11-month-old baby fell onto a concrete walkway between two homes. The child was conscious and crying while he was being treated at the scene by firefighters. The boy was taken to a hospital in Buffalo, where he is being treated.

Detectives say the opening may have been a window at one time, but is now more of an opening to the outside. It was guarded only by an unhooked board and louvers.

Police say the child's mother was interviewed, but they declined to discuss what she said. Child Protective Services has joined the investigation.

City building inspectors were called to the scene and condemned the home.
