Buffalo, NY – SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher continues to push a reform bill that would give the State University system more autonomy and flexibility.

The Public Higher Education Empowerment and Innovation Act would do three things -- it would enable SUNY to manage its own tuition revenue, enter into public-private partnerships and remove bureaucratic hurdles in purchasing.

Zimpher says the goal is to make SUNY more of an economic engine in the state. But she was asked by our Mark Scott if that's an appropriate role for an institution whose basic mission is education.
