The National Weather Service has posted a lake snow advisory through 4am Saturday for Southern Erie and Wyoming Counties and through 12midnight Saturday night for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties. Meteorologist Kirk Apffel says the heaviest snow will fall in ski country.
"The greatest area of impact will be across the Southern Tier, especially in the higher terrain of ski country," Apffel said. "We're looking for totals of five to nine inches."
At 9pm Friday, the lake snow had started in the Southern Tier with reports of moderate to heavy snow fall.
Apffel does say the immediate Buffalo area could see at least a dusting of snow late Friday night and Saturday.
Gusty winds and blowing snow in heavier squalls through Saturday could result in reduced visibility for drivers.
