Lawyers ask for reduced charges against Corasanti
Defense attorneys in the Dr. James Corasanti trial Thursday asked for reductions on two of the three counts to less serious charges.
Attorneys for both the prosecution and defense in the Dr. James Corasanti vehicular manslaughter trial met with Erie County Court Judge Sheila DiTullio Thursday to discuss the charges against Corasanti.
The defense is asking that two of the charges be reduced. One would be leaving the scene of an incident without reporting it resulting in death down to the lesser charge of leaving the scene of a property damage accident. They are also requesting a charge down of second-degree vehicular manslaughter to lesser charges of drunken or impaired driving.
Attorney Joel Daniels says the defense is not requesting that the second-degree manslaughter charge be reduced to criminally negligent homicide. The prosecution is not calling for any charge reductions.
DiTullio will review the requests before determining jury instructions. Closing arguments are scheduled to begin on Tuesday.
