Local and state leaders praise Justice Scalia

Feb 14, 2016

Local and state leaders are responding to the sudden death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.

US Senator Charles Schumer, D-NY, acknowledged his disagreement with Scalia on so many issues. But New York's senior senator said the justice was a "brilliant man with a probing mind."

Congressman Chris Collins, R-Clarence, said Scalia was "a great defender of the Constitution" who will be "sorely missed."

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. D-Buffalo, said Scalia was a "lion of the conservative movement."

But Poloncarz chastised Republicans who are advocating a delay in the nomination of a new justice until after this year's presidential election. He said there is nothing in the Constitution that bars a president from nominating a justice in the last year of his presidency.
