Governor Andrew Cuomo has assembled a panel of lawmakers, parents, educators and business leaders to look into the state's rollout of the Common Core Learning Standards.

Cuomo announced plans for the panel last month and wants recommendations by the end of the legislative session.

Critics say New York rushed the rollout of Common Core and, as a result, shouldn't punish teachers if students do poorly on tests.

East Aurora High School history teacher Todd Hathaway was named to the panel.  He tells WBFO News he's excited about serving.

"I look forward to working with other members to improve instruction here in New York State," Hathaway said.

A separate Board of Regents panel that has been examining Common Core is expected to make its own recommendations Monday.
