McCarthy weighs Dunn's impact on Sheriff's race
While three candidates remain in the race for Erie County Sheriff, the most visible campaign may belong to Bert Dunn who is running on the Law and Order Party line.
During his weekly appearance on WBFO's Morning Edition, Buffalo News Political Reporter Bob McCarthy said Dunn is "spending a lot of his own money on what he acknowledges is a real long shot." Dunn is challenging incumbent Republican Tim Howard and Democrat Richard Dobson.
Dobson defeated Dunn in the Democratic Primary.
"He (Dobson) spent no money of his own," McCarthy noted. Instead, Dobson's candidacy was publicized by advertisements "done by an outfit called the Western New York Progressive Caucus which was largely financed by former Erie County Democratic Chairman Steve Pigeon."
Since defeating Dunn, the choice of the current Democratic Party leadership, the group has been largely silent.
