A mission of creating affordable healthcare

A new partnership has been created between BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, Kaleida Health and a physicians group.

It promises to offer new, more affordable health insurance plans for employers.

“Our fundamental premise in creating this collaboration as we improve efficiencies, effectiveness and quality of care is a reasonable consequence of that,” said  Alphonso O’Neil White, president and CEO of BlueCross BlueShield.

The new program is being touted as a “strategic partnership” forged between health care providers and physicians.

O’Neil White tells WBFO & AM-970 News this ill help employers seeking quality health care for their employees at a reasonable cost.

“We are focusing on self-insured employers because they have more flexibility, and they tend to take advantage of that flexibility,” said O’Neil White.

The new partnership model is described as putting together not only the interests of doctors and insurance providers, but the employers and patients. But O’Neil White says it’s too soon to tally up the costs savings.

“This is very difficult to say we are going to reduce cost by one percent or two percent, three percent, because it may vary,” said O’Neil White.

Kaleida Health president and CEO James Kaskie notes that bringing key physicians and providers together through their organizations will improve the quality of care, enhancing the health of the community.

Dr. Robert Gatewood, a cardiologist with Buffalo Cardiology, calls the new partnership one of the most important and exciting projects that he has been involved within his 32-years of practicing medicine.   Gatewood said it will allow doctors to lead thoughtful and effective healthcare reform.
