Mulrow Picks Up Key Endorsements in Buffalo
By Mark Scott
Buffalo, NY – Democrat Bill Mulrow picked up some key local endorsements Thursday in his Democratic primary bid for State Comptroller. Incumbent H. Carl McCall is giving up the post to run for governor in New York.
Deputy Assembly Speaker Arthur Eve, Assemblyman Brian Higgins and Erie County Clerk David Swarts announced their support of Mulrow at a downtown news conference.
Mulrow is a wealthy Westchester County businessman who says the comptroller can play a role in economic development.
"The state comptroller, as Carl McCall has demonstrated, can play a critical role in the creation of jobs and having fiscal practices that make some sense," he said.
Mulrow faces a Democratic primary this September against former New York City Comptroller Alan Hevesi. The winner will run again Republican John Faso in November's election.
