Music Notes: A New Orchestra for Local Children

A profile of a new kids' orchestra in Buffalo.

Buffalo, NY – A new youth orchestra seeks to challenge music students in the Buffalo Public Schools. Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.

CityStrings will give its first concert here in WBFO's Allen Hall Theatre on Tuesday, March 16th at 7:45 p.m. Music Director Patricia Prokes will lead some variations on this Canon by Thomas Tallis, a piece all 23 members have been practicing since January. If you'd like to get your child involved, call Amy Troy at 833-3948.

The Buffalo Philharmonic will give an all-French concert under the baton of Associate Conductor Ron Speigelman. The Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus will be featured in Faure's Hymn of Jean Racine, before the BPO Chorus steps on the risers for Poulenc's Gloria. Mozart's Paris Symphony rounds out the concert Saturday (3/13) at 8 p.m. and Sunday (3/14) at 2:30 p.m. in Kleinhans, with preconcert talks an hour earlier.

Plus, two guitar quartets will perform on Friday (3/13): Fredonia's at 12:30 in Saint Paul's Cathedral downtown, and the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet at 8 p.m. in Buffalo State's Rockwell Hall.
