Music Notes: Young Talent in Orchard Park

The Music Director of the Orchard Park Symphony explains why he enjoys commuting weekly from his home in Fredonia.

Buffalo, NY – The Orchard Park Symphony spotlights young talent on Friday (2/13). Good morning. I'm Bill Raffel with Music Notes.

Some members of the Southtowns Youth Orchestra will sit along side members of the Orchard Park Symphony for works such as Mozart's Impressario Overture, Greig's Peer Gynt Suite and Tchaikovsky's Second Symphony. Plus, the winner of the orchestra's concerto competiton, Sarah Uhlman, will be featured in Kreisler's Praeludium and Allegro.

The Orchard Park Symphony was founded 54 years ago by the late Joseph Wincenc. The current director is David Rudge, a music professor at SUNY Fredonia.

The Buffalo Philharmonic welcomes Jazz Balladeer Peabo Bryson to Kleinhans Friday (2/13) and Saturday (2/14) nights at 8?p.m., before exploring the Wonderful World of Dr. Seuss Sunday (2/15) at 2:30?p.m. Ron Spigelman is on the podium for both.

Violinist Movses Pogossian features contemporary works for solo violin, plus a song cycle with Soprano Tony Arnold Tuesday (2/10) at 8?p.m. in UB's Slee Hall, with a pre-recital talk at 7:15?p.m.

Opera Lytes features Love Songs from Gilbert and Sullivan operettas Friday (2/13) at 7:30?p.m. in the Amherst Community Church on Washington Highway in Snyder.

Soprano Hope Marie Young gives a free half-hour recital Friday (2/13) at 12:30?p.m. in Saint Paul's Cathedral.

Classical Guitarist James Piorkowski is in recital Sunday (2/15) at 4?p.m. in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd on Jewett Parkway.

The Clara Quartet made up of BPO Musicians will be featured Tuesday (2/11) at 7:30?p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center of Canisius College. Violinists Amy Glidden and Cindy Lin join Pianist Jacob Greenberg Sunday (2/15) at 3:30?p.m. in the Unity Church on Delaware near Auburn.
