Organizers drop charter school plan

Plans have been halted, at least temporarily, to transform East High School and Waterfront Elementary School into charter schools.

Planners told the Buffalo News that the state was unlikely to approve the charter applications at the current time.

The proposal to acquire two existing schools is believed to be a first inside the state charter school movement.

While many on the Buffalo School Board have opposed the plan, organizers say they will re-apply later this year.
