Peace Bridge plaza plans open for public review
Plans for improving traffic flow on the Peace Bridge plaza in Buffalo continue moving forward.
The public has 30-days to comment on the final Environmental Impact Statement for the "New York Gateway Connections Project." Program Manager Maria Lehman says it will reduce traffic on city streets near the Peace Bridge. And Lehman says it will make entering the U.S. less confusing.
"You're not going to have to weave through the plaza," Lehman said. "Everyone is going to be heading toward the right," where they will access one of three ramps to the city or I-190.
Lehman says plans include restoring about 5-acres of green space to Front Park by removing Baird Drive and constructing a round-about on Porter Avenue.
Work on the $35 million project is set to begin in the fall and take about two years to complete.
