Buffalo, NY – Poetry has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years. And people aren't satisfied with dusty tomes. They want to hear the spoken word. From coffee house readings to the Def Poetry Jam on Broadway, poetry is leaping into popular culture once again.
A new book called Poetry Speaks gives poetry lovers and novices a chance to rediscover some of the greatest poets - in their own voices. One of the book's editors, Elise Paschen, says they were emphatic that this anthology not include any living poet, nor the text of any poet who could not offer their own recitation. Pretty tough criteria. But Paschen says the end product is in perfect meter.
