Public can now weigh in on hydro-fracking plan

Albany, NY – The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation opened the public comment period on its revised draft Environmental Impact Statement for hydro-fracking in the Marcellus Shale region.

The 90-day public comment period for the revised draft begins Wednesday and ends December 12.

DEC also plans to hold four public hearings in November. The hearings will be held in counties within the Marcellus Shale region, as well as New York City. Exact dates and locations will be released in early October.

Senator George Maziarz, who chairs the environmental committee said in a statement Wednesday that he is "very encouraged" by the revised draft.
