Efforts by the Buffalo News to request documents related to the ouster of Hamburg Assistant Police Chief Stephen Mikac have been denied by the town.

A closed door meeting led to Mikac's retirement as he was facing sexual harassment charges for alleged inappropriate contact with a female recruit. The News is appealing its Freedom of Information request.

A state legal expert contends the documents should be released.
