Security upgrades on Buffalo's waterfront continue, unrelated to Manchester bombing

As the U.K. continues to react to the bombing of an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester last night, major cities around the world are considering their own safety. There are a number of plans in the works between City of Buffalo police and their partners in law enforcement to enhance security at one of the city’s most popular destinations – Canalside.

“We have also been working very closely with the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation on security issues,” said City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown. “And for every special event that takes place in the City of Buffalo there is a customized security plan that fits that special event.”

Brown said upgrades to the city’s waterfront destinations are not in direct response to the concert bombing.

“This was already planned, something that we have been working on for quite some time,” said Brown. “We’re very pleased that Canalside and our other waterfront destinations in the City of Buffalo continue to grow in popularity. And as these venues grow in popularity, the need for enhanced security increases.”
