Seven injured in multi-vehicle crash involving Metro Bus in Grand Island

Seven people were injured in multi-vehicle crash involving Metro Bus in Grand Island Wednesday morning. The bus and two other vehicles crashed just after 9 a.m. along Grand Island Boulevard.  

NFTA Transit Police Chief George Gast told reporters several were injured.

“About 9:05 this morning there was a multi-vehicle accident on Grand Island Boulevard near Fantasy Island. A Metro bus and two other vehicles involved in the accident. A total of seven injuries are reported. Four individuals have been transported to the hospital. One of those individuals is reportedly in critical condition," Chief Gast explained.   

The critically injured driver was transported to Erie County Medical Center. Four passengers from the bus were taken to Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital. It's also reported that a mother and child were taken to Oishei Children' Hospital. 

Chief Gast said he was not aware if the bus driver was hurt.  The NFTA's accident investigation unit is working jointly with the Erie County Sheriff's Office to determine the cause.

“They will be doing a total station to lay out the exact situation and then the determination will be reached,” Gast explained.

A total of 12 passengers were on the Metro bus. 

"The critically injured individual was a driver of one of the other vehicles involved,” Gast stated. "We do have a detective at ECMC now, who is also an accident investigator, to follow up on those injuries."
