St. Bona names new dean of journalism
St. Bonaventure University in Olean has named a new dean of Russell J. Jandoli School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Interim dean Pauline Hoffmann, Ph.D was appointed to the position effective immediately.
Hoffman has been serving in the interim role this academic year. She succeeds Lee Coppla who retired at the end of the 2010-11 academic year after serving 15-years as dean.
“It is an exciting time to lead the School of Journalism and Mass Communication,” said Hoffmann. “As an SBU alumna, I understand our unique challenges and our enormous strengths. I will continue to lead in the tradition of Dr. Jandoli with an emphasis on strong writing, reporting and communicating.”
Before Hoffman began her career at at St. Bonaventure, she was the corporate communications manager for The CRS Companies in Williamsville, N.Y., creative services specialist for the Catholic Health System (now Catholic Health), and served as a free-lance consultant for organizations such as Catholic Health, Buffalo Women’s Gifts, and the Health Care Access Coalition.
In addition to her teaching experience at St. Bonaventure, she has also served as a visiting instructor for the University at Buffalo.
“We are delighted with what Dr. Hoffmann accomplished in her year as interim dean, and look forward to the leadership she will provide for the Jandoli School,” said Michale Fischer, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Her professional communication experience, coupled with her teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, will serve her well in this important role.”
