George Cleveland spoke to students at International Preparatory School Friday morning.
"In his first term, by refusing to suck into the whole patronage system, that really was one of the things that cost him his election. Would that happen today? I don't think so. People are running for office the day after they get in," Cleveland said.
Before going to the White House, Cleveland served as Mayor of Buffalo, Erie County Sheriff, and Governor of New York.
"Grover got rid of the French chef that they had in the White House because he wanted somebody who knew how to make real food from Buffalo," George Cleveland told the students.
A resident of New Hampshire, Cleveland said he loves Buffalo because it exudes history and he says he enjoys sharing that history with students.
