Trader Joe's decides on Boulevard location

The popular grocery chain Trader Joe's has chosen a location in Amherst for its first store in the greater Buffalo region.

The Buffalo News reports the franchise has settled on a 12,000 square foot building in the Boulevard Consumer Square on Niagara Falls Boulevard, adjacent to the Barnes and Noble bookstore.

A Kenmore group was unsuccessful in its campaign to convince the company to open a store in the village.

Trader Joe's has more than 350 locations in nine states, including a Rochester store that opened in October.

The California-based company is known for its private label, gourmet, and organic foods and household items.  The company has gained notoriety for its environmentally-friendly practices, workers dressed in Hawaiian shirts, and the popular discount wine known as "Two Buck Chuck."

The Amherst outlet is expected to open its doors sometime this year.
