Close to 17,500 customers are still without power across Western New York due to Wednesday's wind storm. Nearly 12,000 of them are in Erie County.
Crews from NYSEG and National Grid are currently fixing imminent issues liked downed wires.
NYSEG Spokesperson Kevin Ortiz said repairs are coming along nicely so far.
“We’re also assisting in clearing roads as well,” said Ortiz. “During that time we will continue to assess the damage to our infrastructure. We have begun repairs to restore service to our customers as quickly as possible.”
National Grid estimates restoration for many may not come until late tonight. Some NYSEG customers may be without power for a few days.
“Western New York was hit the hardest as result of this wind storm. But we have resources across the state dealing with outages,” he said.
Ortiz said they will have estimated times of power restoration later today. Anyone who sees a downed power line is asked to report it immediately to NYSEG or National Grid.
