A vacancy on Buffalo's Common Council was filled Tuesday when councilmembers selected Rasheed Wyatt to represent the city's University District.
Wyatt, 50, was elected by a vote of 7-1 to succeed Bonnie Russell on the council. He was one of five people to interview for the position last week. Russell left City Hall after ten years to take a job in Erie County Family Court.

Council members voted 7-1 in favor of Wyatt's appointment. North District councilman Joseph Golombek cast the lone 'no' vote.
Wyatt, who had served as the council's chief of staff, will occupy the seat at least until the fall, when a special election will be held.
