Imagine a sprawling network of hiking and biking trails that connect some of New York’s most historic and scenic sites in a unified 750-mile route.

An expansion of industrial hemp farming was one of Governor Cuomo’s proposals at his regional State of the State address in Syracuse. The proposal comes the same week the state allots more money to fight drug addiction.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has ended his six-city State of the State tour, speaking for nine hours total, according to his estimates, and traveling over 1,200 miles — with one emergency helicopter landing thrown in for good measure. But the departure from the traditional speech before lawmakers at the Capitol has its advantages and its drawbacks.

At least one person in the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts did not agree Monday when Governor Cuomo's State of the State message included a full-throated pitch for ridesharing, like Uber and Lyft.  Todd Vaarwerk, director of advocacy and public policy for the Western New York Independent Living Center, does not agree with the pitch, saying ridesharing companies do not allow access for people like him, the state's disabled community.

As he delivered his State of the State message in Amherst on Monday afternoon, Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled details for his proposed "Buffalo Billion Squared," the next phase of Western New York development. Among the ideas drawing cheers was a proposal to expand the Buffalo Metro Rail.
