Buffalo's theater community turned out Monday night to honor the 25th anniversary of "Theater Talk" on WBFO and the show's co-host from the beginning, Anthony Chase.

Buffalo-born playwright A.R. "Pete" Gurney died Tuesday in his New York City home. He was 86. WBFO Senior Reporter Eileen Buckley says Gurney always remained fond of Buffalo.

There's a lot to celebrate this week on Theater Talk. First off, WNED/WBFO will be the new presenter of the Annual Artie Awards which since 1991 have recognized excellence in Buffalo theater.

For more than a quarter century, Buffalo has honored the standouts of its theater community with the annual Artie Awards, and this year’s new presenter of the “Arties” is WNED|WBFO.

MASTER HAROLD AND THE BOYS packs a lot of drama into 90 minutes at the Shaw Festival's Courthouse Theatre in a play, set in the 1950s, that looks at many issues, including apartheid.  Classically trained but a "behind the scenes" Hollywood star, Marni Nixon, who sang for stars who couldn't, passed away this week. And the Buffalo Infringement Festival 2016 has too many offerings to list, so you'd be wise to visit the website.

Buffalo's theater community will be celebrating its best productions and performers Monday night. The 25th Annual Arties will be held at 710-Main Theater downtown.

An aspiring young filmmaker is about to premiere a locally produced short film this week titled All in the Sauce. As part of Buffalo State College's 'Year of the Teacher', WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley tells us about the student's work outside the classroom and what he has learned in his undergraduate studies.

WBFO & AM-970's Theatre Talk co-host Anthony Chase has received a unique honor.  He has been named "Best Media Personality" by Buffalo Spree.  For nearly 25-years Chase has hosted Theatre Talk with our Blues host Jim Santella. 

Chase is assistant dean of Humanities at Buffalo State College.  He is also theatre editor at Artvoice and creator and producer of the Artie Awards.  You can read about Chase in this month's Buffalo Spree.

They talk about his famous weekly Theatre Talk sign off that you hear each Friday, "...and I'm Anthony Chase!"
