A new relief effort is underway to help Hurricane Maria survivors now living in Buffalo.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown has submitted his proposed 2018 capital budget to the Common Council. The $22.8 million dollar plan includes improvements to streets, sidewalks and buildings while setting the wheels in motion for some all-new facilities.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has ordered that flags be flown at half-staff across New York in a memorial for the victims of the Las Vegas incident that left at least 59 dead and hundreds injured, calling it “yet another senseless and horrific mass shooting.”

Buffalo played host Wednesday to a conference on affordable housing at the Hotel Henry. During welcoming remarks, the mayor hinted of an upcoming plan to create such housing throughout his city.


Throughout their campaign challenges to Mayor Byron Brown, City Comptroller Mark Schroeder and Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant hammered away at the lack of economic progress in many Buffalo neighborhoods. Buffalo News Political Reporter Bob McCarthy believes the message resonated but, in the end, Brown's organization and record were good enough to earn a victory in Tuesday's Democratic Primary.

While many who follow Buffalo politics consider Tuesday night's Democratic primary the race that effectively settled the campaign for mayor, Byron Brown stated he is focusing on winning the general election in November. The incumbent mayor, though, savored his primary win and what many believe is a clear path to his fourth term in office.
