There will soon be a sixth airline flying in and out of Buffalo Niagara International Airport, reversing long-term stagnation in travel as airlines merged.

West airport entrance closed nightly for paving

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority is beginning a construction project to replace the pavement at the west entrance and exit lanes to the Buffalo Niagara International. As a result, the airport entrance/exit opposite the Kensington Expressway will be closed nightly Monday-Friday and again October 24-25 from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Emergency crews from across Western New York were called to respond to a plane sliding off the runway at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport during Saturday night’s rain storms. The good news – it was all part of a drill.

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority is alerting the public that an emergency training drill will be held tonight at 6 PM at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport.

Buffalo now has direct plane service to and from Los Angeles, with the first flight out Thursday night and the first flight arriving very early this morning. Some believe the Jet Blue service will be an economic engine for Western New York.

Starting in June, JetBlue will begin non-stop flights between Buffalo and Los Angeles. JetBlue will be the first airline to offer direct flights from Buffalo to any California destination.

Buffalo's primary airport is constructing a lactation room for traveling, nursing mothers. The announcement comes after legislation was recently introduced in the state legislature by Buffalo senator Tim Kennedy that would require large New York airports to offer such rooms.

Officials say a commercial flight carrying 34 passengers had to make an emergency stop in Buffalo after the crew reported smoke in the cockpit. The plane landed safely and no one was injured.

Airport construction work to slow morning traffic

Construction work at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, set to begin late tonight, will cause some traffic delays for much of the spring and summer outside of the terminal. 

Both the upper departures deck and the lower arrivals area will undergo significant structural improvements including milling, paving and striping, as well as concrete and sidewalk repairs.
