A name from Buffalo's past is in the planning for a Greenway project in downtown Buffalo aimed at improving access to the waterfront.

Three small businesses will spend the summer selling their wares from a downtown Buffalo storefront, rent-free, with the city's hope they'll eventually open a permanent shop along Main Street. The Queen City Pop-Up is underway with its sixth edition of an initiative that leaders say is resulting in new businesses opening downtown.

Buffalo's Planning Board on Monday removed the last barrier to starting a major piece of the city's Northland Corridor, approving a series of demolitions and renovation of 683 Northland.

It's not the final step, but the city Planning Board yesterday approved the site plan for the new Workforce Training Center on Northland Avenue.

Beginning Friday and continuing for the next two months, a handful of local retailers will set up shop inside a storefront inside Buffalo's Pierce Building on Main Street. They're the participants in the second Queen City Pop-Up.

The effort to build more housing in downtown Buffalo is getting another boost. The Buffalo Urban Development Corporation has received a second round of funding to help small and mid-sized developers working on adaptive reuse projects.
