A lake effect snow warning remains in affect until 7 p.m. Sunday for Southern Erie, Chautauqua and Cattauraugus counties. A commercial traffic ban has been placed on the I-90 in both directions between Lackawanna and the Pennsylvania state line.

Western New York saw it first significant snow of the season on Saturday.

Lake effect snows brought several inches of accumulation to regions where persistent snows are common. Locations in Allegany County measured 4 inches of snow, and South Dayton in Cattaraugus County reported 5 inches of accumulation.

Police are investigating a fatal shooting in Great Valley.

According to Cattaraugus County Sheriff's deputies, the shooting occurred just before midnight on Friday in a home along Route 417.

Multiple police agencies are investigating the incident and details remain sketchy at this time.

A spate of violent weather rolled through parts of Western New York on Saturday.

Pockets of thunderstorm activity accompanied, at times, by high winds and heavy rains, struck in the mid-morning hours. Though little damage was reported in the wake of the storms, areas of Cattaraugus County and the City of Olean did report that a few trees and many large tree limbs were felled by the winds.

Significant hail showers pelted some regions as well.

For Andrea Siwiec of Buffalo,  "Routes to Art" has become a ritual.

This weekend will mark her third time touring the studios of the 45 artists scattered about Cattaraugus County and the Seneca Nation of Indians.

This year, Andrea, her husband and four friends will pile into the same vehicle, hitting the rural roads, meeting artists and reviewing their works.

"Their studios are in these beautiful settings. It must be where they get their inspiration."

Siwiec offers another key observation.

"Don't forget your GPS."

Reports of animal mistreatment have led to a raid on a Cattaraugus County farm.

More than 70 animals were removed from the East Otto property owned by Jay D. Williams. Sheep, horses and chickens were found to be malnourished and neglected. Among the charges against Williams are two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Williams claims many of his animals were in poor shape when purchased at auction and that he was attempting to improve their condition.
