A Buffalo man died in a three-alarm fire at a Delaware Avenue apartment building Wednesday night. Buffalo Firefighters rescued the victim from his burning apartment, but he died a short time later at ECMC.
In light of the fire that claimed the life of 7-year-old Alexavier Torres-Santiago in the city on Sunday, Buffalo Fire Commissioner Garnell Whitfield is reminding people to make sure they have working smoke detectors in their home.
Seven-year-old Alexavier Torres-Santiago died in a fire at 1400 Fillmore Avenue Sunday. Buffalo Fire Department Commissioner Garnell Whitfield said the cause of the blaze is still undetermined and the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are still seeking clues to the identity of the man killed in Friday night's fire on Sycamore Street.
The building was an abandoned residence and all of the utilities had been disconnected. The cause of the fatal fire is still under investigation. Commissioner of the Buffalo Fire Department, Garnell Whitfield, warns that winter weather drives many people, homeless or otherwise, to use heat sources that might not be all together safe.
