The Erie County Legislature retained its Republican majority last night, secured when Ted Morton unofficially won his hotly-contested race for re-election in the 8th District.

Homeowners in Erie County should find a property tax rebate check in their mailbox this fall and next. That's according to County Executive Mark Poloncarz.

The race for Erie County Executive has been unusually quiet, with both candidates shying away from the accusations and personal attacks that have become political staples. The race for Erie County Executive heated up Wednesday night in the WNED|WBFO studios with a debate between incumbent Democratic County Executive Mark Poloncarz and his opponent, Republican Assemblyman Ray Walter. Among the many issues debated were Child Protective Services, taxes and last November's snow removal response.


With tonight's televised debate, the contest for Erie County Executive is expected to heat up. Buffalo News political reporter Bob McCarthy, one of the debate panelists, says until now the contest had been a "sleepy race."
