The New York State Public Service Commission is meeting today to approve the sale of the Fitzpatrick Nuclear Power Plant on the shore of Lake Ontario. It is one of two deadlines New York state must meet this week in order to ensure the nuclear plant does not close.

The battle is heating up over a statewide electric rate increase to subsidize upstate nuclear power plants that pits Governor Andrew Cuomo against a coalition of "good-government groups."

Electric utility customers across New York state could see a jump in their bills next year. New York state's Public Service Commission is pushing through a rate hike that includes millions of dollars in corporate welfare.

A large crowd in the Central Library Downtown Wednesday night told the Public Service Commission the area needs high-speed internet connections and isn't getting them. Among those urging the PSC to take action are members of the Communications Workers of America, who are currently working for Verizon without a contract.
