New York State United Teachers and its largest local affiliate, the United Federation of Teachers, are taking newly approved rules for charter school teachers to court.

Some of the state’s top ranking education officials are condemning a vote by a State University of New York committee that would weaken regulations for teachers at some charter schools.

The Buffalo School Board could approve a resolution Wednesday night to file a petition that calls for the removal of Park District board member Carl Paladino. WBFO's Senior Reporter Eileen Buckley says local leaders remain outraged at his egregious remarks about the Obamas and that a member of the New York State Board of Regents plans on attending the meeting.

In a review of Buffalo Public schools in receivership, the New York State Education Department said some of the city's most troubled schools are meeting their own goals for improvement.

Buffalo's new State Board of Regents representative is discouraged in the latest call to change the leader of the city school district.  WBFO'S Focus on Education reporter Eileen Buckley says the Regents Catherine Collins believes there have been too many superintendent changes. 

Senate Republicans say they will break a long standing tradition of boycotting the election of new Regents. They now say they will attend a joint legislative session and that many will vote 'no' over dissatisfaction with the Common Core. It is uncertain whether all four of the incumbent Regents members will be reelected. 

Most New Yorkers don't realize four of the most powerful people in state government have their terms expiring early next year and only a small group will be allowed to decide what happens next.
