Canisius College in Buffalo is ready to launch a new teacher residency program.  WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley say the college's Center for Urban Education will establish the program to prepare future educators.

With a nationwide teacher shortage, some districts are conducting recruitment programs. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley says those in higher education are trying to reach students to become new school teachers.

Two of the state's top education leaders appeared at the University at Buffalo Tuesday. It was one of four stops on a state-wide 'listen tour' to promote the TeachNY initiative. WBFO's senior reporter Eileen Buckley says the discussion center around a teacher shortage.

SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher will be bringing her campaign to support teachers to the University at Buffalo Tuesday. Zimpher will be leading a public forum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at UB's at Hayes Hall on UB's South Campus. New York State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia is also expected to appear. Zimpher is hosting listening tours as part of TeachNY, a statewide initiative designed to improve the way teachers are prepared and address the teacher shortage.
