High speed cashless tolling on the New York State Thruway could do more than help the environment. Removing toll barriers could also help boost economic development across the region.

Though cashless tolls have yet to appear in Western New York, their possibilities are creating conversation among local officials. One elected leader believes the system could ease some of the long-term problems caused by the Williamsville toll booths.


Elected leaders from all levels of government are teaming up to push for more cashless tolling on the New York State Thruway. Just last week, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that the Grand Island Toll booths will be replaced with an electronic system next year.

As Williamsville drivers clamor for solutions to traffic congestion on Main Street, Congressman Brian Higgins said the State Thruway Authority needs to act.
