1 tourist killed, 4 injured including 3 children in 290 crash

Police have released the name of the person killed in a crash overnight Monday on the I-290.

Town of Tonawanda Police say the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the Youngmann Highway between the Niagara Falls Boulevard and Colvin Boulevard exits.

Police say Hamad Mir, 40, a tourist from Pakistan, lost control of his 2018 Kia Forte and struck a guardrail. Mir was pinned behind the steering wheel and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three children were taken to Oishei Children's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. An elderly female passenger was admitted to Buffalo General Hospital with upper body pain and another adult female passenger reported no injuries.

The highway was shut down and traffic was diverted for more than four hours as police investigated the scene. The highway was reopened by 5:30 a.m., for the morning commute.
