The 35th annual Taste of Buffalo continued Sunday. The weather has been just about perfect for the people sampling the offerings of 53 participating restaurants.
The Riverstone Grill on Grand Island returned with its popular "Beef on Weck Garbage Plate" and other menu items. Riverstone Chef Chaz Butera says the Taste of Buffalo is a great way of introducing his restaurant to people who may not be familiar with it.
"We like to come here and showcase what we can do," Butera said. "It's just not Buffalo where you can find great food. The Northtowns, the Southtowns -- it's all over the place. There are a lot of places to try out."
By the time the Taste ends at 7:00 Sunday night, it's estimated as many as 450,000 people will have attended.
The Taste of Buffalo announced its award winners late Saturday afternoon. Stack Burger, located in West Seneca, was honored for the Best Overall Item for its "Demon Burger."
The Best of Buffalo Award was given to Rolling Cannoli for its Sponge Candy Caramel Cannoli.
The Chair's Choice, chosen by this year's Taste of Buffalo chair Rich McDermott, was awarded to Carmine's for its Crab Cake Stuffed Shrimp.
Pierogi from Ru's Pierogi food truck won the Lou Billittier Memorial "Rookie of the Year" Award.
Best Dessert went to the Taste of Siam restaurant for its Fried Ice Cream with Sweet Berries.
Other restaurants receiving awards were Black and Blue Steak and Crab, India Gate, Paula's Donuts, Dirty Bird Chicken N' Waffles and Mineo and Sapio Street Eats.
Lloyd Taco Truck, Osteria 166 and Bravo! Cucina Italiania were honored for their healthy food options.
Victorianbourg Wine Estate and Spring Lake Winery received best wines awards.
