Area law enforcement report positive COVID-19 cases

Positive cases of COVID-19 are being reported from various law enforcement agencies.

A second Erie County sheriff's deputy assigned to the Holding Center has tested positive for the coronavirus. A review is underway to determine if other staff or inmates came in close contact with the affected individual.

No inmates have been tested for COVID-19, but seven inmates are in Persons Under Investigation protocols. The sheriff's department is among several groups seeking face shields, masks and gowns to keep inventories current.

The Buffalo Police Benevolent Association has announced that two Buffalo Police Department officers from the Fillmore-Ferry District have tested positive for the coronavirus, and a third officer is showing symptoms. Seven officers are currently in self-quarantine.

Three new cases have been reported in Ontario's Niagara region, all involving travel. Two of the affected people were in the United States and the third was in the Phillippines. That brings the total to seven in the Niagara Region.
