The Buffalo Bills and Independent Health have teamed up for an initiative that challenges Western New Yorkers to adopt healthier lifestyles.
The six-week community challenge gets underway October 6. Participants are asked to achieve daily and weekly goals. Their progress is tracked online and prizes, including autographed Bills memorabilia and a pair of Super Bowl tickets, will be handed out.
Independent Health President and CEO Dr. Michael Cropp says the ultimate goal is to improve the overall health of the community.
"We look forward to this as being a transformational effort. We're going to help to lift this community up in terms of the levels of engagement in the right kinds of activities to promote health. in doing so, we're going to help to transform this community into one of the healthiest communities around," Cropp said Tuesday.
Cropp was joined by Bills President and CEO Russ Brandon to make the announcement in Orchard Park. Various members of the media participated in a media challenge to kick off the program.
Challenge participants will earn points by meeting three primary weekly goals: exercising three times a week for at least 30 minutes, eating five servings of fruits and vegetables a day, and drinking eight glasses of water each day.
